Brisbane keeps a plumber on their toes. In one week we can be under a raised Queenslander in the inner south, inside a riverside unit block with shared risers, and in a newer brick home out west with plastic pipework and a gas continuous flow unit. Each needs a slightly different approach, and almost a decade of work across South East QLD means Joseph has seen most of the combinations.
Many older inner Brisbane homes sit up on stumps. That makes the pipework easier to reach, but it has often been patched and extended over the years, so old and new materials are regularly joined under the one floor. We check those joins before recommending a repair, because fixing one leak next to a tired fitting rarely lasts. Newer homes bring their own issues, such as flexi hoses under sinks and vanities that can split without warning, and mains pressure that is harder on tapware than it needs to be.
Summer storms drop a lot of rain in a short time. Blocked gutters overflow, downpipes pull apart at the joins and stormwater pits back up into yards and garages. In Jindalee this year we repaired a deck gutter and a leak running into the garage. When water gets in during heavy rain, we follow the whole path from the roof to the street rather than patching the spot where it shows up.
