Clayfield is a leafy inner northside suburb in the Brisbane City Council area, with Urban Utilities managing its water and sewer network. Large character Queenslanders sit alongside post-war houses and older apartment buildings, many renovated more than once. That history shows up in the plumbing: a mix of pipe materials, fittings from different decades and the occasional part that is no longer a standard size. It pays to know what is behind the walls before you renovate, so we check the existing pipework before we quote.
Our biggest recent Clayfield job was a kitchen renovation. We disconnected the old kitchen and hot water connections, ran new hot and cold copper lines and risers to suit the new cabinets, and replaced an isolation valve that would not fully shut off. At fit off we connected the sink, mixer, dishwasher and washing machine, added the safety valves the hot water system needed to meet Australian Standards, and lodged the QBCC Form 4. On another recent visit, the flexible hoses under a bathroom basin turned out to be a non-standard size, so a straight swap was not possible. Rather than leave the job half done, we fitted mini stops so the water was safely isolated while the owner weighed up the options, then came back to install a new basin mixer and replace the broken valve on the hot water system. It is a common story in older units, where fittings from earlier renovations do not always match what is on the shelf today.
Dripping taps, running toilets, slow drains and hot water that is not quite right are part of the job too, and as a licensed gas fitter Joseph covers gas cooktops and gas hot water as well.
