Appliance installs explained
A new appliance is only as reliable as the connections behind it. Most of the installation work we do is a dishwasher going into a renovated kitchen, a washing machine moving to a new laundry, or a gas cooktop taking the place of an old electric one. The difference between a tidy install and a slow leak inside the cupboard usually comes down to the right fittings, a reachable isolation tap and a drain set at the correct height.
Both need a cold water supply with its own tap and a drain point that can handle the water they pump out. For a dishwasher, that normally means a connection on the kitchen sink waste and a tap under the sink. For a washing machine, it means the laundry taps and either the tub or a standpipe. If the existing taps are old or stiff, it is worth replacing them during the install.
Gas work in Queensland must be done by a licensed gas fitter. Joseph holds both plumbing and gas licences, so we connect the appliance to your natural gas or LPG supply, fit the correct connector and test for leaks and burner operation before we pack up. Changing from gas to electric? We disconnect the old appliance and cap the gas line safely. Any new power point or hardwired connection is for a licensed electrician.
Fridges with an ice maker or chilled water dispenser need a cold water line run to the back of the cavity, with an isolation tap you can reach without pulling the fridge out. If you are adding filtered water at the sink too, a filter tap or three-way mixer can be fitted in the same visit.
Kitchen updates often change what sits under the sink. We take out food waste disposal units that are no longer wanted, reconfigure the sink waste, and rework the pipework when a new sink, mixer or dishwasher changes the layout.
