Gas fitting guide
Gas Work Done Properly
Gas is one of the few jobs around the home that stays firmly in licensed hands. In Queensland, connecting, altering, repairing or disconnecting a gas appliance must be done by a licensed gas fitter, whether it is a cooktop in a new kitchen or a hot water unit on an outside wall. Joseph Tornatore holds both plumbing and gas fitting licences, so one visit can cover the gas line, the water connections and the testing at the end.
Swapping a cooktop or oven
A like-for-like swap is usually the simplest gas job. The old appliance is isolated and disconnected, the new one is connected with fittings that suit its inlet, and every burner is lit and checked for a clean, even flame. If the new cooktop is a different size or is moving, the line may need extending, and the bench cut-out and rangehood height need to match the manufacturer's instructions.
Gas hot water and outdoor points
Gas storage and continuous flow units need a supply large enough for the appliance, plus the right water connections and clearances around the flue. When an older unit fails, we check the existing pipework can feed the replacement before anything is ordered. A new point for a barbecue, outdoor kitchen or heater follows the same thinking: the run from the meter or bottles, the pipe size and where the outlet will sit all shape the job.
Leaks, faults and capping off
A faint smell near an appliance, a burner that will not stay alight or a pilot that keeps dropping out are all worth having checked. We test the line, find the cause and give you a fixed price for the repair before any work starts. Complex fault finding may need an assessment fee, credited if you go ahead. When an appliance is coming out for good, the supply is capped off and tested so the line is left safe.
