Gutters explained
Where Roof Water Should Go
Your roof collects a surprising amount of water in a Queensland storm, and every litre of it has to travel along the gutters, down the downpipes and into the stormwater system. When any part of that path fails, the water finds its own way down, usually over the fascia, behind the walls or into the ground beside your slab. Fixing the weak point early costs far less than repairing rotten timber or stained ceilings later.
Why gutters leak and overflow
Most leaks start at the joins, corners and end caps, where sealant dries out and cracks after years in the sun. Rust is the next culprit, especially where leaves have sat wet in the bottom of the gutter. Overflow is a different problem. It often means the gutter has lost its fall and water sits in the middle of the run, or the outlet is too small or partly blocked for the roof area it serves.
Downpipes and the stormwater connection
A downpipe is only doing its job if it ends in the stormwater system. Pipes get knocked by mowers, joints pull apart and the riser at ground level cracks, so water spills out at the base of the wall. Left alone, that water softens the soil under your footings and floods garden beds. We repair or replace the downpipe, renew the fittings and reconnect it.
Flashings and roof valleys
Not every leak at the gutter line comes from the gutter. Flashings seal the joins where the roof meets a wall or another roof, and a lifted or corroded flashing can let water track inside. These problems are often mistaken for a gutter fault, so we trace where the water is really coming from before quoting.
